Nouf Marwaai

A book on her father’s shelf, a daily practice, and a national yoga committee.

The story of Saudi Arabia’s first certified yoga teacher. It is told here for one reason: to show what steady, unglamorous practice can grow into. Every claim is tied to a source at the end of the page, and where the sources disagree, the page says so.

Also spelled Marwaii, Al-Marwaai or Almarwaai in press coverage.

In her own words

What she says about practice

Quoted as reported by Gulf News in 2018.[5] I have not heard the original interview.

“No one can perfect yoga. We can only perfect our discipline.”

“My life revolves around yoga.”

“When I do yoga, I disconnect from the world.”

She says yoga met some resistance at first, mostly from people unfamiliar with it, and that she answered with patience, explaining it as a “wellness sport” practised for physical and mental wellbeing and open to people of every background.[5][3]

What this story does and does not showयह कहानी क्या दिखाती है, क्या नहीं

Her account is personal. It is not medical evidence.

  • She credits yoga with helping her manage lupus and cancer. The press coverage gives no medical details of her treatment or recovery.[3]
  • A claim that she lived 21 years without medication appears on her Wikipedia page, attributed to her own 2019 interview. It is self-reported and not independently verified.[1]
  • Lupus and cancer need medical care. Yoga can be a companion to treatment. It does not replace it. If you have a health condition, speak to your doctor before changing your treatment or starting a new practice.
